As a mother of 2 and a nurse, my life can be pretty stressful at times. I decided to have some Personal Training as I wanted to tone up, build some strength as there are a couple of bits that began to wobble, and I needed something to help me de-stress. I’d tried gyms before but never lasted as I didn’t get any extra support. I run a couple of times a week, but it didn’t do anything to help me get toned. I saw a video on Facebook, and decided to contact Ged from R A Fitness, I’m made up that I did. After an initial phone call, where Ged answered all my questions, I decided to go for it, one of the best decisions I’ve made. I must admit I was worried about the cost, as I had a limited budget, but during the first session Ged gave me a breakdown of the costs & explained that his main job is to educate me to exercise and get me self-sufficient ASAP. He’s a man of his word, he’s taught me how to exercise and best of all it cost me less than half of what I’d budgeted. I used to suffer with back pain, not anymore! After having my daughter 2 years ago, I’d been busy juggling family life and had struggled to lose the baby weight, I realised I needed to make some time to focus on me. I’ve tried weight watchers, but I put the weight straight back on. I hired a personal trainer but really struggled with the intensity of the work outs., I’m not very fit and wanted to improve my fitness but couldn’t match the pace the PT was giving me, that really knocked confidence as a result I’d been looking at Ged’s Transformation programme for a couple of months and decided to make a commitment to myself. I was nervous at first, I didn’t know how I was going to juggle the housework and family life and exercise 3 x a week. Once I started it was a lot easier than I thought. Sometimes the house is a bit messy but I’m happy. I soon realised I was eating through boredom and feel much better now I’m getting out more. I feel less stressed having time in the day to myself, time to wind down, the other girls at the gym are very friendly and really welcoming, so I didn’t feel like the newbie for very long at all. I came across RA fitness after growing tired of the big chain gym I was part of. Full of weight machines I had no idea how to use and people looking at themselves in the mirror. I had been a member of several of these gyms for the past 13 years and was unhappy with my body and had no idea about exercise or nutrition. I got in touch via the website and Ged arranged a call to discuss my goals, I originally enrolled on a 6 week transformation programme, I was taught proper strength training techniques during coached sessions where Ged and his team were always on hand to guide and assist. I achieved more in those 6 weeks than I had done in 13 years at the other gyms. I grew much stronger, my clothes fitted better I lost inches on my belly and waist and grew visible muscle on my arms, chest and legs. More importantly Ged and his team taught me the techniques to allow me to progress. I am now a full member of RA Fitness and couldn't imagine training anywhere else. Joining a gym is always a tricky decision as you never know what to expect. Since getting a recommendation from a friend to go to R A Fitness, my sister and I joined and I’m pleased to say made the right choice. As a female, sometimes being in a gym can be quite intimidating but at R A it certainly isn’t like that, everyone is so friendly and down to earth, I’ve even got the confidence to go on my own now. His personalised programs are fantastic, suiting my individual aims and goals. He is always on hand to assist whenever I need him whether it be with the equipment or a new routine so I never feel alone or out of my depth. I addition, I have also started using his App, which gives me a bit more independence, I can track my training and results on my phone, there are even videos demonstrating the exercises for me!! Tracey Here I am on the 13th May 2016 a 55 year old woman who is delighted to be 18lbs lighter and most likely fitter and stronger than I have ever been. It was my good fortune to research and book that first appointment with Ged at RA Fitness and I haven't looked back since. I was apprehensive as to what I would be able to do and quite honestly scared of making a fool of myself I needn't have worried because Ged is so kind and helpful no matter how much you can do at the start he makes you believe you can improve. I committed myself and my money and started 2 weekly PT sessions with Ged on the 1st February. I have been encouraged and motivated ,I have improved beyond my first week expectations and when I hear this is PB personal best I feel a bit proud of myself! You will not meet a more knowledgeable or dedicated trainer than Ged and add to that he's a really nice guy. He is rather clever as whilst he is chatting away you barely realise time is flying by I love it when he says that's it we're done and I think it's gone quickly ! Right now the bits you need to understand that first few weeks everyone wondered why I was walking funnily and it took forever for me to walk up the stairs my legs were so stiff and alternately like jelly! Ged kept telling me it wouldn't feel so bad as time went on and hey guess what he was right! Seriously though you have to stick with it . I couldn't even squat at first now I am so mobile I can go very low holding weights. A lifetime of diets has been blown away by help and advise from Ged I feel healthier than ever and at my last asthma review the nurse said my eating plan was better than hers ! Invest in yourself spend some money on your health after all if you haven't got that the rest isn't worth a lot. Ged is a great listener go and talk to him about your goals and then get started don't waste another minute... Nick Woods 47 I joined R A Fitness at the end of September last year after meeting with Ged to discuss my goals for strength and conditioning training. First impressions were that Ged had great knowledge backed up with a lot of experience in a well equipped gym. So I joined on the alpha male programme training three times a week in sessions coached by Ged and Joe, my goal was to increase all round strength and build muscle. From the start it was clear that these guys were very keen on good technique and form. At the start I was barely able to squat to horizontal and focused on the weight rather than good form. I soon realized that it's not all about the weight you can shift, the technique has to be right first. I can now squat well past horizontal and have much better form with deadlifts and the weights are increasing steadily. I had my measurements taken at the start and now after six months and the results speak for themselves. Body fat down from 16%-15% and weight up from 81kg to 85kg which is 4kg of muscle mass. The guys are very good at injury rehabilitation and have great knowledge and advice about nutrition. Everyone is friendly in the gym and there is certainly no bravado making it a great place to train. If you are thinking about joining a gym I can highly recommend RA fitness, put the work in and you will see results. Jessica Nixon
I have been a member at R A Fitness since November 2014. I was looking to lose some weight and improve my fitness level. Since joining R A Fitness I have lost much more weight than I ever expected which has boosted my self confidence massively. I enjoy the classes as each class is different and challenging. I've only been with R A Fitness for 3 weeks and already want to write a testimonial. Previously I have flitted between gyms and Personal Trainers who didn't give me the commitment or the want to achieve. Ged was recommended to me by a friend. From our first conversation I understood that Ged was an extremely knowledgable man. I've never met a gym owner/Personal Trainer more dedicated to his clients. Ged isn't all about the financial perks of the job, he is rewarded by seeing the results in your body and watching how the change makes you feel. Row Attack is a spurt of exercise, it doesn't make you feel like you are spending so long in a gym and along with Ged's expertise in nutrition I already feel more comfortable in my jeans from a couple of weeks work. I am currently working towards getting in that wedding dress, yet for anyone else who has a goal, Ged will complete this journey with you. For those of you who haven't got that aim yet are regular gym go-ers then R A Fitness will provide you with all the equipment you need and the ongoing support mechanism. I started off with a 6 week pt course and then went on to work out 3 times a week in the gym with Ged keeping an eye on me! In the last 2 months I've been going 4 times a week doing a mixture of cardio and weight-lifting. In total I've lost 1 stone and 2" from my hips and waist. I am currently in my last week of the 6 week transformation training and I want to write an honest review for anyone out there that like me needs to drop some weight or wants to be stronger and or wants to kick start a healthy approach to their diet. I have never considered myself a 'gym' person and had never picked up a kettle bell in my life, I had read a bit about how effective lifting weights can be and wanted to find someone to help me. I can honestly say I have absolutely loved it. I've lost 1 stone in weight and feel much more toned. Ged has put everything in place to make everything as simple to follow and effective as possible. The atmosphere in the gym is great and I would now feel confident that I know a bit more about the equipment that I could go it alone if I wanted. This is not to say it's been easy, I have pushed myself, I've dragged myself out of bed some mornings, I had lots of aching muscles at the start and I've gone home with a sweaty beetroot face most days! But everyone knows that you can't expect to get results if you're not prepared to put the effort in. I joined R A Fitness in January 2014 after suffering a lower back injury and feeling complacent with the gym i had been previously going to. After discussing my goals with Ged and what i wanted to acheive in the long term he was able to use his wealth of knowledge to steer me in the right direction. By offering information on important books i should be reading to do with strength training (e.g Mark Rippetoes starting strength) along with mobility drills to help with the injury i had sustained it helped a lot in the road to recovery. I have only really been able to train fully for the last 12 months but i have managed to add 40kg to my deadlift, 40kg to my squat and 20kg to my bench all with Ged's help, advice and experience. His gym has to be the best equipped facility in the area with more squat racks in one place than all the other gyms in Northwich put together! There's all the tools there you need to strive towards becoming the best version of yourself and with his knowledge and experience to add to it there is no reason why it is not possible to reach your goals. I have been training at RA fitness for a while now. I have joined in on the evening classes as well as PT sessions both in a group and more recently on my own. Since joining the gym my needs have varied , from training for sporting events, weight loss, toning and more recently to pregnancy! But Ged has always been enthusiastic and driven in helping me meet my targets and see results. More recently the focus of my training has changed significantly. I'm taking things much easier than before, Ged has yet again provided the perfect work out and support to encourage me to stay active throughout my pregnancy. As my abilities and needs are continually changing Ged has been adapting our workouts and ensuring that both me (and my bump) are OK with the next routine. I cannot recommend Ged or his gym facilities enough, if you are looking for someone to take a genuine interest and passion in you and your fitness goals then I can’t think of anywhere else I would prefer to train. I am a 53 year old man who until November of last year had basically done nothing but running as a form of exercise. I originally joined RA Fitness to take part in the 6am row attack sessions 3 times a week. Since September 2014 I have been a full member and take advantage of all of the benefits this gym and Ged has to offer. The classes are amazing, always challenging but do-able. Fighting Fit, Row Attack, Team Attack and the Renegade WOD are my favourites. The fellow gym members are great, very supportive and make taking part in the classes fun as well as competitive. My fitness is as high as it ever was,even when running marathons and my strength has vastly improved. Ged is such a knowledgeable person and nothing is too much trouble for him. He is definitely in it for the love of what he does and not just for profit. My only regret is that this gym and Ged weren't around 20 years ago. I’m a 50 year old woman with a job where I spend all my time sat at a computer and a muscle condition which means I can’t exercise. So what do I do when I want to lose weight? After struggling along maintaining a weight I didn’t want to be and getting nowhere Ged was recommended to me by a friend. I was nervous about approaching Ged with my challenge to start off because I felt I wouldn’t be a typical customer he would encounter or even want to take on as a Personal Trainer. When I plucked up the courage I found that he totally understood and said he could; with my commitment help me to solve the problem. We agreed he would support me remotely with Skype and FaceTime which fitted in fully with my lifestyle. He also explained he didn’t want me to lose weight quickly and set me a goal of 1kg a week and an eating plan and calorie intake which was easy to follow and which was monitored by Ged remotely and electronically. That was 6 weeks ago and after a few minor tweaks to make the original plan fit with me better, advice on macro nutrients and some focus on possible food intolerance I am now well on track and losing weight exactly as Ged said I would. This has changed my eating habits considerably as believe it or not I wasn’t eating enough food!! Joining R A Fitness was one of the best decisions I have ever made. I joined up nearly a month ago and I have lost just over a stone already. This is no ordinary gym, this place is all about functional fitness. Ged's expertise, knowledge and support has been immense in the short time I have been there and the effect is fantastic. Since working with Ged on my diet he has helped me lose 3kg and my body fat percentage has dropped by 5.3 percent and this is within the first four weeks, Ged has provided me with a training and diet plan which was tailored around my life style which has made it easy to follow as it does not interrupt my working life or social life. Ged provided me with diet books to back up his advice and offers 24/7 support whenever I have questions which I find really helpful as I see different contradicting articles all over the internet. I now feel in control as I know what what to eat and when and Ged helps me track my progress with state of the art equipment he has in his gym R A Fitness so I have an accurate reading on how much body fat I am carrying. One thing I love about the diet plan is that I am never hungry and I don’t feel like I am "dieting" which was a good positive for me, I am happy knowing I am consuming the right amount of nutrients and my new diet has improved my performance in the gym and as a whole, I feel better and more energetic through the day and I now get a decent night’s sleep. This has been a life changing decision by speaking to Ged and it has definitely been a good one, this is no fad diet and I know this is good for my health, I can’t thank this man enough for all the hard work, time and effort he puts invests in me to help me with my goals. Bored of the usual commercial Gyms, and sick of prancing around at Zumba with no results, I've finally found something that I love, and gives great results. Ged makes sure that every class is different, and more importantly you are doing it correctly with good supervision. Its hard work but lets face it, if you want it to be easy, then stay at home on your sofa with a brew and biscuit. His classes are suitable to all levels of fitness,male and female. If anyone wants to learn and become proficient in the Olympic Lifts, Ged's coaching is absolutely class, Had the pleasure of being coached by him during a 3 day Strenght & Conditioningh workshop. Not only does his experience speak for itself but has the fine art of coaching down to a tee. Had never overhead squatted without pain...never mind completed a snatch....a couple of quick, expert fixes from Ged and I finally managed a snatch for the first time.
